Famed as the premier whale-watching destination in Sri Lanka, Mirissa is approximately one and a half hours away from our hotel in Balapitiya. Embark on an ocean safari to catch a glimpse of a blue whale or sperm whale before it dives back into the deep, and watch dolphins glide alongside your boat. Enjoy this remarkable once–in-a-lifetime experience.
Several species of whales migrate to the warmer waters around the island, particularly around Mirissa, to avoid the colder temperatures. Blue whales and sperm whales are the most frequent visitors to these azure waters. You can also spot different species of dolphins who race your boat, as well as the occasional sea turtle.

Key Highlights
The season for whale watching in Mirissa is from November - April.
The boats leave the harbour at 6 AM and you’ll be back by 10/11 AM. Boats embark early in the morning because the water gets choppier just before noon, making it harder to spot any marine life.
Along with a camera, sunglasses, a hat, and water, we suggest you take medication if you’re prone to motion sickness.
We can organise your transportation to and from our hotel. We’ll even pack your breakfast or a snack to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
